Children’s Rescue Center Orphanage

The West African country of Liberia was once one of the success stories of the continent, but civil wars that raged from 1989 to 2003 devastated the country’s industry and infrastructure, and left it one of the 5 poorest countries in the world. Today, Liberia has an unemployment rate of 85% and most people live on around 1$ a day. Social services are seriously lacking, and most public support comes from international governments, NGOs and religious organizations.

As is often the case, the recent civil wars have been especially hard on Liberia’s children. The government lacks the resources to provide even the basic care that these children, many of them orphaned and homeless, so desperately need. However, just outside the capital city of Monrovia, Children’s Rescue Center Orphanage is doing all it can to make a difference in the lives of some very special children. (Founded in 1986 by the late Rev. Mother Rosaline Clarke and her late husband Deacon J. Alexander Clarke Sr. During the last 26 years, the Children Rescue Center (“CRC”) –which survives on donations from local organizations, has managed to provide shelter, food, clothing and even an education to hundreds of needy children. Today, CRC is home to 70 children; 28 girls and 42 boys, ranging in age from 1 to 22 years old. Most of the children are between 10 and 13 years old.

CRC is a lifesaving place for the children who live there, but as you can see from some of the pictures it needs help. The dormitories are cramped and barely provide enough space for the children to sleep at night. The only library is located at the school, nearly a mile away and it is only accessible during school hours – which means no reading all summer long.

Thanks to your generous donations, we have raised more than $13,000 for CRC -eclipsing our initial goal of $10,000.  CRC have used this money to begin construction on the new dormitory.  We are no longer accepting funds for CRC at this time, but we hope to update this page, periodically, with pictures of their construction progress.  On behalf of the children of CRC and the many children of Liberia who will ultimately find their way to CRC in the years to come, we offer our sincerest gratitude for your generosity.  You made a difference!

Sincerely,

Bart & Damare Theriot
